There is always another side to the story. In this case the not so nice story of Ukrainian nationalism in the context of Ukraine being the victim in its war with Russia.
What would you do if the leaders of your country started bombing you because you rejected a new constitution that in effect isolated you as a kind of foreigner in your own country? Well, the people of Donbas tried to take over the local administration building to begin a process of taking control over their own destiny in a hostile racist environment.
Kyiv reacted with overkill by shelling them day and night, prompting Mr Putin to invade and set up a protection zone in Donbas. A series of video clips, which depict savage beatings being doled out to the immobilised victims by alleged paramilitary groups and members of the public, show the life of Ukrainians in a wholly new grim light.
Hundreds of civilians have been punished for diverse reasons in Ukraine by paramilitary groups and national guard. There is a large amount of footage kept hidden from the rest of the world by censorship teams on Social Media. Strong footage. Tortures, abuses, humiliation, even of kids and girls being tortured in public.
There is no clear motive for these illegal abuses. They are labelled as marauders which can include men who don’t want to fight, who are suspected of being Russian sympathisers, looters or people searching for food.
Update to US Interference in Ukraine
“Operation Aerodynamics” was a broad program designed to promote anti-Soviet sentiment in Ukraine, the publication notes.
The program had two goals: to encourage new and existing anti-Soviet, anti-communist, Ukrainian nationalist sentiments and to collect intelligence on Soviet Ukraine and the USSR as a whole to further US hegemonic interests in the region.
This was led by a group of Ukrainian emigrants, code-named AECASSOWARY.
The number AECASSOWARY/2 was “Ukrainian nationalist” Nikolai Lebed.
After the war, the CIA helped him emigrate to the United States, where he was appointed chairman of the NGO research center Prolog, which produced, printed and distributed anti-Soviet literature in Ukraine.
